Welcome to Liberty Nation’s Daily Snapshot. All the top news of the day, the latest polls, and more.

  • The Biden administration may have already accepted the fact that, in order to get the proposed massive infrastructure bill through Congress, a number of items on the wish list may have to be cut in order to conform to the rules of reconciliation.
  • According to a new book by USA Today Washington bureau chief Susan Page, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was on the verge of retiring from Congress, until Donald Trump unexpectedly won the 2016 presidential election.
  • Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) continues to fight back against the allegations leveled against him, telling a crowd in Florida that “the truth will prevail.”

It might just be true that, since Donald Trump left the White House, the establishment media has not even mentioned the possibility that the flood of illegal aliens across the southern border – and in most cases, the medical condition of these people is entirely unknown – might pose even a little bit of a public health concern. Yet, breathlessly, the media obsesses over rising COVID cases in Michigan, a supposed “fourth wave” of infections, and the hesitancy of many Americans to get vaccinated.

Former President Donald Trump gave a speech to several hundred GOP donors at a Mar-a-Lago event on Saturday night. Still angry at the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, which he described as a “fraud,” Trump said he was “disappointed” in former Vice President Mike Pence. He called Mitch McConnell (R-KY) a “dumb son of a b—ch” and also attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci for giving him bad advice on how to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Joe Biden circumvents the legislative process entirely and pushes forward with action on gun control, more states are pushing back. West Virginia’s Gov. Jim Justice (R) signed a bill that eliminates the sales tax on guns and ammunition and provides tax credits to gun manufacturers. At this point, one potential future for the U.S. is a wider split between the federal government and those states that refuse to follow its lead on gun rights, immigration, freedom of speech, and other issues. Might those states reject outright some laws coming down from Washington and bring the nation to a full-blown political and Constitutional crisis?

A thought for the day from history’s most interesting thinkers.

  1. “Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.”
  2. – Benjamin Franklin
