FREE SPEECH CONTROVERSY: Goodyear Reportedly Limits Employee Speech, President Trump Suggests Boycott

By Flavia K. Tucker, The Ultimate Patriot

Earlier this week, a Kansas news station published a photograph of a slide listing acceptable and unacceptable slogans for the workplace that Goodyear Tire & Rubber allegedly presented to employees as part of a diversity training. Among the slogans deemed unacceptable were “Make America Great Again,” “Blue Lives Matter,” and “All Lives Matter.” LGBTQ-pride slogans and the phrase “Black Lives Matter” were both named as being acceptable.

When asked about this issue during a press conference, President Trump said, “I’m not happy with Goodyear, because what they’re doing is playing politics.”

Although the President initially responded to the idea of a boycott of Goodyear saying, “That’s up to people,” he later sent out a tweet encouraging people to refrain from purchasing Goodyear products.

Goodyear then put out a statement saying that the Kansas report had “created some misconceptions about [their] policies.” They explained that while the graphic published by the Kansas news outlet was not created or distributed by the company, they would prefer employees to refrain from engaging in political speech and advocacy that falls “outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.”
