MYSTERIOUS MASKS IN THE MAIL: Tampa Bay Residents Receive Unsolicited Masks from China

By Flavia K. Tucker, The Ultimate Patriot

Unsolicited masks from China were delivered to many residents of the Tampa Bay area in Florida earlier this August, likely as part of a “brushing” scheme.

The Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission have explained that “brushing” involves third-party sellers placing fake orders under phony accounts so that they are able to post fraudulent positive reviews for their products on sites such as Amazon.

Last month, Americans received unsolicited packets of seeds from China in what is now believed to have been a similar “brushing” scam, despite initial concerns regarding their potential as biological weapons.

While, to some, receiving a package as part of a “brushing” scheme may seem harmless, the Better Business Bureau warns that there may be other nefarious implications. “The fact that someone was able to have the items sent to you as if you purchased them indicates that they probably have some of your personal information…Once the information is out there on the internet, it could be used for numerous crooked enterprises.”
