Law enforcement officials have reportedly identified the suspect who fatally shot eight people and injured seven others at a FedEx ground facility in Indianapolis late Thursday before apparently killing himself as well, as a 19-year-old male.

The Associated Press, citing two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation, reports that the suspect has been identified as a 19-year-old male from Indiana.  Law enforcement officials have searched a home “associated” with the suspect, whose name has been withheld per Daily Wire policy, and confiscated a computer and other electronic devices as evidence.

Bonny Harrison, a spokesperson for FedEx, told AP that the suspect was a former employee of the company. Indianapolis Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt has since publicly said that the suspect was a 19-year-old male who previously worked at FedEx, reports AP.

“The suspect came to the facility, and when he came there, he got out of his car and pretty quickly started some random shooting outside the facility,” said McCartt in a press conference earlier on Friday. “There was no confrontation with anyone that was there. There was no disturbance, there was no argument, he just appeared to randomly start shooting. And that began in the parking lot, and then he did go into the building, into the facility for a brief period of time.”

Police Chief Randal Taylor said in a press conference Friday: “Our MPD officers went towards danger, as they typically do, and when they arrived on the scene they found something that really no one should see. We’ve all been shaken by this heinous act.”

Five of the people who were injured were taken to local hospitals, and another two were treated on-site for injuries. FedEx, in a public letter to employees, identified the eight people who died as team members of the company.

McCartt called the shooting a horrible tragedy, and said that when officers arrived late Thursday, they found “a very chaotic and active” scene. Several people were injured, and others were already dead, said the deputy police chief. He said that the suspect appears to have died by suicide “very shortly before” officers entered the FedEd ground facility building.

He also said that law enforcement officials believe the shooting lasted a couple of minutes.

Federal agents are helping local investigators, including by conducting interviews and by searching the suspect’s home, said FBI special agent Paul Kenna. “I can tell you that there is no further threat, and updates will continue to be shared as we learn details.”

Governor Eric Holcomb (R) called the incident heartbreaking and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff for the next four days.“In times like this, words like justice and sorrow fall short in response for those senselessly taken. Our thoughts are with the families, friends, coworkers and all those affected by this terrible situation,” said the governor.

Both of Indiana’s U.S. Senators have responded to news of the shooting as well.

“The shooting at FedEx was a senseless tragedy. Indiana and the nation mourn for the lives lost and forever changed last night,” said Senator Todd Young (R).

Senator Mike Braun (R) said he and his wife learned about the shooting when they woke up. “Our hearts are mourning for the individuals who’ve senselessly lost their lives, all of their loved ones, and their co-workers at FedEx who will be dealing with this tragedy for a long time to come,” he said.
