Christie exits hospital after bout with coronavirus

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has been able to leave the hospital a week after testing positive for the coronavirus, he announced Saturday.

“I am happy to let you know that this morning I was released from Morristown Medical Center,” Christie tweeted.

The close confidant of President Donald Trump thanked the “extraordinary doctors and nurses” and said he "will have more to say about all of this next week."

Christie is one of several high-profile Republicans, along with Trump himself, to contract Covid-19 following a Rose Garden event to announce Supreme Court Justice nominee Amy Coney Barrett last month. At least 35 people who attended the event tested positive for the disease, including three GOP senators.

Christie admitted himself to the hospital last Saturday as a “precautionary measure.” Christie is 58 years old but has asthma and has long struggled with his weight, putting him in a higher risk category.

Christie told ABC last week he visited the White House “off and on" as he helped the president prep for his debate against Joe Biden and noted no one wore masks during the preparations.

Many of the attendees at the Rose Garden event, including Christie, were seen not wearing masks. Video footage of the mask-less former governor hugging other attendees went viral.
